Acrocorinth (Upper Corinth)

Towering 575 meters above the main archaeological site, this massive rock fortress is completely free to enter.

Acrocorinth served as the fortified citadel for the ancient city. Visitors can explore a large area enclosed by complex defensive walls. Access requires navigating uneven terrain, but you are rewarded with wide views of the Peloponnese.

Admission is free, unlike the main site below. It is easiest to reach the entrance gate by driving or taking a short taxi ride from the village.

The Fortress Walls

30-45 minsSteep terrain

A multi-layered defensive wall system stretches about 3 kilometers around the peak. You will pass through three distinct defensive gates on your way in. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, as the path through these gates is steep and slippery.

10 minsMythical spring

This mythical spring sits inside the fortress near the southern walls. Legend claims the winged horse Pegasus created the water source by striking the rock. You will need to hike across the citadel grounds to reach it.
